Since multimedia is such a big part of eLearning, we often run head-on into the constraints of fair use. What's allowed? What's considered plagarism? How do you know the difference?
While I want to be respectful of the intellectual properties of others, I often find fair use guidelines somewhat murky. That's why I enjoyed reading this article from Inside Higher Ed: When It’s OK to Copy
Hope you find it useful as well!

Thanks for sharing the copyright and fair use article. I found it very useful.
It's interesting that you should bring up this issue - it's HUGE in museums now. Recently, BMI contacted the organization I work for and other museums and informed them that they needed to pay everytime a copyrighted song was played on our premises - that includes rentals such as weddings, bands that play covers, or even background music. I think it's rediculous! Do you know we have incredible difficulty making reproductions of works in our collection for even educational purposes?
There needs to be new procedures and policies put in place in this web savvy age.
